One of the beautifully designed history books that was designed by Cooper McKenzie Marketing to portray the history of the GPC.

In 2009, the Gladstone Ports Corporation awarded CMM the tender for the design and production of the first of five publications, documenting the history of the Port of Gladstone. Each book was to showcase a 20 year period in the Port’s history, leading up to the 100th anniversary celebrations.

The scope was to design a comprehensive pictorial and textual account of the Port that would serve as a historical legacy for future generations. The design needed to reflect the specific time period with the target demographic being all people, however it had to have a particular skew to school aged students. Not only were the turnaround times tight but the requirement for many intricate ‘embellishments’ meant many after work hours of research, development and design, all while the agency dealt with their other client’s daily production requirements.

The first book however was delivered on time and on budget. The outstanding success and subsequent accolades that followed the first publication ‘Koongo Yallarm' - Book 1 - The Dreaming to 1934, resulted in CMM producing the second book ‘Port of Gladstone' - Book 2 - 1935-1954, which was also highly praised throughout all circles.


Based on positive feedback, it was suggested CMM enter The Port of Gladstone’ Book 3 (1955- 1974) in the Best Non Daily Publication section in the 2014 Queensland Multi Media Awards. In a gala ceremony in Cairns, the Book 3 won this prestigious category beating 74 other entrants. The following year , The Port of Gladstone’ Book 4 (1975-1994) was judged a Grand Finalist in the 2015 Queensland Multi Media Awards for the second year running.
